I've been hanging out in Hawaii (near Shark's Cove!) with my girlfriend and her "pops" (he's American). I've been swimming, getting sunburned, eating papaya's and drinking Mai Tai's. Life is beautiful. I may never come back to London and today's active lifestyles. Some how Portland, Or's Mean Jeans found out about me 'settling down' and write a killer power pop song about it! It's called Steve don't party no more and is on their debut record; born on a saturday night, on Dirtnap Records. They also have a new seven inch out on trouble in mind. He said things like "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." and advocated "drugs, alcohol, violence and insanity". This reminds me of one of my favourite current LA punk bands...Le Face. Le Face are shallow, empty, drenched in 'hipster' reverb and dark as hell. I have just been bequeathed their second record on the pretty baaadass Tic Tak Totally Records (www.tictaktotally.com).

I have been trying (for about three months) to upload a couple of songs in mp3 format. 'Death Rattle' and 'Cellophane' which are on their new extremely horrible twelve inch (which comes in limited edition sickly swine flu booger green and sounds just like their last one; dog shit!). But unfortunately I am a technophobe and a beet of a mongoloid. So I either couldn't do it, or couldn't be arsed to do it...sorry.

Here in line with my baaaad blogging is a real old video of them playing live. suck it up.

While on the subject of faces and stuff, there is a pretty awesome power pop punk band from Minneapolis called Boys Club (www.myspace.com/ realboysclub) who have a great song called 'This is my face', or en Francais- 'C'est mon visage!

Au revoirstevroshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15531467843400297297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6150342261660262588.post-80862325745861515372010-03-26T20:39:00.002+00:002010-03-26T20:59:07.034+00:00R.I.P Invisable man who can sing in a visible voice"If he died in Memphis (he didn't), then that'd be cool, babe" Paul Westernberg

Big Star were awesome. You can get it from iTunes here.

Or even better, just buy ALL the records made by Reatards, the band I love him for the most. I think in those days he was literally like 16, singing songs like "Puke On You" and "Stupid Asshole," which were actually somehow pretty inspirational, at least for us when we started The Lusts around the same age. And if four sixth-formers in Leicester, middle England, took "inspiration" from such songs to get drunk and start a punk band, I'm sure a whole heap of fuckers around the world also did.

I've just spent 22 minutes trying to pick my favourite Reatards song to stick on here, I'll go with these two, for now.

REATARDS - "Oh My Soul"
REATARDS - "Stacye"

R.I.P Jay.Lukehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07664433385122318285noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6150342261660262588.post-22736573618395359132010-01-08T19:33:00.008+00:002010-01-13T00:51:38.130+00:00The Hospitals

Live at Upset The Rhythm.

Best noise I've heard all day.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6150342261660262588.post-6492766115343002432010-01-07T15:48:00.002+00:002010-01-07T17:46:07.692+00:00The Links

It sucks massively not having a proper job. While all your friends are out buying expensive new cameras, jazzy shirts and drinking flirtini's; I'm sitting around in my raggedy-ass converse and some t-shirts I stole from American Apparel, drinking red wine with the retail value of two pounds ninety nine pence. To add insult to injury all I want is to purchase 'Out of the Bachs'; the reissue of the solitary full length from this pristine garage band from Chicago, circa nineteen sixty eight. I can't afford it. Life sucks. The Bachs rule though, apparently they used to just play high school dances, teen clubs and private parties.
Seriously though listen to your teachers and your parents, get a proper job. Everything they said was right. Apart from sun, milk, red meat and university being good for you!
If you can afford the record these nice chaps at gear fab records have reissued it so you can pick it up here:
They took me for a nice pint of beer and told me that Ontario is pretty great for garage punk and power pop. While I can't vouch for the state of Ontario's music scene; I can say that they look well punk pop (which is obviously pretty awesome), own all the Barracudas records, love the Exploding Hearts (r.i.p. literally) and play brusque French-Canadian power pop. Sound good? They have just self released their debut elpee on shee dee, empeethree and the obviously superior vinyl. Have a listen here: http://www.myspace.com/sonicavenues

And watch the awesome video for The Barracudas summer smash hit 'Summer Fun', if you're a total Cinderella and have had your head firmly planted in ze sand since nineteen seventy something or other...
I guess I'm a little bias, seeing as I recorded a quarter of it last year for a uni project, but even the parts I had nothing to do with are better than most of the shit you're probably listening to right now. Here's a couple of MP3's to convince you I'm right about all this:

"Brand New Cadillac"

"Murder Talk "

Oh, and to make things even better, there's a cover on it of one of my favourite songs. And for the record, Dan's a MUCH better singer than you will ever be.

The record will be available at some point from ColdRice Records, but message the band and Dan will probably post you one for cheap.Lukehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07664433385122318285noreply@blogger.com0
